As believers we are called many things, but among them we are, "the called out ones." It is by the sharing of the word of God that we were called and it is by that same word we are edified as believers. God has commissioned a work and it begins with Christ. But that isn't the end. We are all fellow workers and labourers to see that this building is built. It is a body, a church an ekklesia of men. We do this in various ways. We see Paul explaining this work, but also noting the position of Apostles in the work. Let us be diligent to do the work of God with whatever gift He has given us.
