Alright anglers, Artificial Lure here with your Los Angeles fishing report for Friday, March 21, 2025. We've got some decent conditions today, so let's dive right in.
Tides are looking favorable with a high tide of 4.38 feet at 1:11 AM and a low tide of 0.94 feet at 10:28 AM. Sun's up at 6:54 AM and sets at 7:05 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to work with.
Weather-wise, we're looking at partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid-60s. Winds are light at 5-10 mph, so it should be a comfortable day on the water.
Fish activity has been picking up lately as we transition into spring. Halibut are starting to show up in good numbers, with anglers reporting decent catches from the surf and local piers. The spring run of white seabass is also kicking off, with some nice fish being landed around Catalina Island.
Calico bass fishing remains solid around the kelp beds, and there are still some decent yellowtail hanging around. Sculpin and sand bass numbers are steady for the bottom fishermen.
For lures, swimbaits like the Keitech Fat Swing Impact in the 3.5-4 inch range have been killer for the calicos. Don't forget your surface iron for those yellowtail - Tady 45s in blue and white or mint are always a good bet. For halibut, try slow-trolling live bait or working a Big Hammer swimbait along the bottom.
Speaking of bait, live squid has been the ticket when you can get it. Otherwise, sardines and anchovies are producing well. For the surf anglers, sand crabs and bloodworms are your best bets for perch and corbina.
Hot spots to check out: Redondo Beach Pier has been on fire for halibut lately. The Palos Verdes kelp beds are holding some nice calicos. And if you can make it out to Catalina, the backside of the island near Church Rock has been giving up some quality seabass.
Remember folks, treat the ocean and your fellow anglers with respect. Tight lines and see you on the water!
