"Loser" by Beck - 1994

Listen Later

This week the Doctor makes a house call in a blizzard to cover the 1994 number one from the alternative hits chart, "Loser", by Beck. Working low-paying jobs in early 90s LA and playing in coffee shops, this song was created out of Beck's necessity to keep indifferent audiences engaged. This hip-hop-based-folk-song is full of bizarre, disconnected lyrics that are one-upped by an even more random, low-budget avant-garde music video. Is Beck the most disappointing live act in show business? What came first: Beck's musical success or joining the Church of Scientology? Are things gonna change? Can you feel it? All these questions and more will be answered on this week's episode of Single File.
