An involving listen
This is my second Susan Lewis audiobook after the excellent 'No Child of Mine' and it definitely kept me gripped for a few days. Lewis' perception and portrayal of families is so well done that I became completely involved in the story and the lives of the characters. Julia Franklin reads it so beauifully that I am unsure about listening to a Susan Lewis with an alternative narrator. My only criticism is that around half way through things got a little predictable, but still an excellent listen.
Loved it
This book was a joy to listen To i truly enjoyed it would recommend it most definitely great book!!! X
Great read
started off slowly with introduction to many characters.
However, once it had hot going it was addictive. Really loved driving to work so I could carry on listening! Will definitely be getting another by Susan Lewis
Far too sugary-sweet
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The mother's reaction to every part of this tragedy involved her shrieking at everyone - never at any time was she stunned into silence as the drama unfolded. She was also too perfect, forgiving of everyone and running a successful business while dealing with a severely handicapped daughter - quite unbelievable
What could Susan Lewis have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Made the main characters Emma and Lauren less perfect -
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her attempt at two characters speaking English with French accents were laughable - more like 'Allo Allo' than a realistic French accent.
If this book were a film would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
The long-drawn-out passages involving Sylvie the drunk could have been cut back - far too boring and predictable and added very little to the story.
