I've been there, where it's easier to avoid a conversation than front up and communicate it. And ultimately, it has cost me; friends, romantic relationships, family members, professional contacts, the list goes on.

What I have learned though, is that no matter where you are at in your life, how old you are, what job or work you do, there will always, always, be uncomfortable conversations to be had.
We can choose if we continue to avoid them, or to find a way to have them.
