As of March 27, 2025, the U.S. has seen recent tariff developments under the Trump administration, with a 25% tariff on imported vehicles and parts from Canada and Mexico announced on March 26, 2025, set to take effect April 3, 2025. There’s also a standing 100% tariff on Chinese-made EVs from Biden’s 2024 policy layered atop a base 2.5% import duty.

Tesla’s EVs—Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck—are all assembled in the U.S., with key production facilities in Fremont, California, Austin, Texas, and Sparks, Nevada. This domestic production shields Tesla from the 25% tariff on finished vehicles, unlike competitors like Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, GM’s Chevrolet Equinox EV, or Honda’s Civic sedan, which could see costs rise by $3,000 to $6,000 per vehicle due to the tariff.
