Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Louisiana Weather Podcast — it's Sunday, February 22nd. Winter just kicked the door open and invited itself in.
Right now you're at 48 degrees, but don't get comfortable. A cold front is barreling through with winds hitting 20 miles an hour and gusts up to 40. That Wind Advisory runs until 3 PM across Southeast Louisiana and the Capital Region. But here's the real concern — fire danger is critical today. Humidity's dropping to 20 percent, winds are cranking. And the National Weather Service has a Red Flag Warning up statewide. No outdoor burning. Period. One spark today could turn into a nightmare.
Down in Southeast Louisiana, you'll hit 58 degrees around 3 PM, but those 40 mile an hour gusts will make it feel raw. Tonight drops to 40 by 5 AM, feeling like 34 with the wind. Monday's high is just 54 — jacket weather for sure.
Capital Region tops out at 56 around 1 PM. Tonight you fall to 38 by 4 AM, feeling like 31. Frost is likely Monday morning, so cover those plants.
Northwest Louisiana reaches 58 around 3 PM, then plummets to 35 by 5 AM tonight. Cold enough for a light freeze in spots.
Looking at the week ahead — Monday starts cold with lows near freezing and highs in the mid 50s. Tuesday warms slightly to the low 60s. Then Wednesday through Friday, we rebound big time into the 70s, a few spots near 80. There's a slight rain chance Thursday and Friday, but nothing heavy.
Quick favor — if this helped you plan your day, share it with someone who could use the heads up.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
