Blurry Lines

Love and Religion

Listen Later

The word religion often carries a bad reputation — usually framed as works versus faith, or positioned as the opposite of relationship. Over time, many of us have learned to say, “It’s not religion, it’s relationship,” and while that sentiment carries truth, it has also caused us to strip the word religion of its meaning and purpose.

In this episode, we explore why religion may not be the enemy it’s often made out to be.

Rather than seeing religion as empty rules or performance, we reflect on it as structure — a framework designed to help nurture, sustain, and protect relationship. Much like formal education doesn’t replace learning but gives it form and direction, religion provides rhythms, disciplines, and practices that help shape spiritual growth.

We talk about church attendance, prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and spiritual habits — not as boxes to tick, but as tools meant to deepen intimacy with God. This conversation isn’t about choosing sides, but about finding balance: understanding how relationship gives meaning to religion, and how religion can serve relationship when held with the right posture.

This episode invites an honest rethinking of faith, works, structure, and intimacy — and asks a simple but important question: What if religion, rightly understood, is meant to serve relationship, not replace it?
