Abstract

This research paper presents a literature review of a textual analysis of a preacher’s sermon based on 1 John 4:7-12, focusing on love as a central theme in Christian theology. The analysis delves into the sermon's theological, rhetorical, and cultural elements, drawing connections to biblical exegesis, homiletics, and contemporary cultural issues. The paper employs a combination of historical-critical, rhetorical, and cultural-theological frameworks to assess how the sermon articulates Christian love, its implications for Christian identity, and its relevance to modern social contexts. Findings suggest that the preacher effectively uses rhetorical strategies to convey the transformative power of God’s love while challenging congregants to reconsider their role in embodying divine love in a fractured world.
