Love as Jesus Loved | John 13:31–38Sermon Outline: https://love-as-jesus-loved-yjm5hgc.gamma.site/We often hope our children will grow up to be just like us, until they get a front-row seat to our own flaws and depravity. Ultimately, our calling as parents and as believers isn't to point people to ourselves, but to our Heavenly Father who calls us to reflect His perfect character. From the creation mandate in Genesis to the holiness laws of Leviticus, God has always desired for His people to image Him to the world. In this sermon, Pastor Nathan dives back into the Upper Room on Thursday night—just hours before the crucifixion. With the traitor Judas having just exited into the night, Jesus looks at His remaining disciples, calls them "little children," and delivers a radical, final form of an old commandment: to love one another exactly as He has loved us. Join us as we explore the four profound truths of this passage, learning how the church shines brightest when we love the unlovable, practice radical forgiveness, and stop trying to love out of our own self-sufficiency. Key Timestamps & Sermon Outline00:00 – The Desire to Imitate: Leading Our Children to the Heavenly Father 03:45 – Scripture Reading: John 13:31–38 06:15 – Setting the Scene: Thursday Night After Judas Departs 09:30 – Truth 1: The Radiance of God's Love is Seen Perfectly on the Cross 14:10 – Understanding the "Glory" and Revelation of the Son of Man 18:55 – Truth 2: Jesus is the Standard to Which We Are Called to Love 24:20 – How the New Commandment Replaces "Love Your Neighbor" with "Love Your Enemy" 28:40 – Truth 3: The Brightness of Our Light is Determined by How Well We Love 33:15 – Washing Dirty Feet: Asking for and Granting Forgiveness in the Church 38:50 – Why the "Lovability" of a Person is Irrelevant to True Christian Love 42:15 – Truth 4: We Are Wholly Insufficient to Love in Our Own Strength 46:30 – The Warning of Peter: Abiding in Self vs. Abiding in the Vine The Big Idea: The church images God to a dying culture in exact proportion to the quality of how we love one another. True Christian love isn't drawn from our own empty reservoirs, but is the infinite love of Christ channeled through broken vessels to other broken vessels. (Note: Pastor Nathan will be on a 4-week study renewal following this message, with guest preachers stepping into the pulpit before our fall series).
