Though we sing and speak about love often, we can’t escape the subtle truth that it’s easier to talk about love than actually love. We can’t escape that subtle truth that we like the concept of love more than the pursuit and practice of it. Those subtleties slowly erode the beauty, necessity, and dignity of love. Nevertheless such a sacred and life shaping word is in need of renewal in our day and for our time. We need to recapture what is easily lost, it’s dignity. Recapturing the dignity of love means recapturing the definition of love. When defined rightly our jaws hit the floor, our minds should be blown, our hearts melt, and our strength emptied because such a profound definition and picture seems impossible to receive or pursue. When that happens we’re confronted with a simple yet transformative truth. LOVE IS WAR. It’s a fight to prioritize and pursue what’s true, noble, and good. It’s a fight to mature and grow. It’s a fight that takes place on the battlefield of my heart. A battlefield lined with broken relationships, past trauma, selfishness, trust issues, self righteousness, and fear.
