Welcome to Biblical talks, beloved my family was watching a Christian rapping group, and beloved I have to admit, I can’t listen to it. My family had no problem listening to it, because they were speaking Christianese so we started to discuss worldliness. Beloved have you noticed today, that when you buy a bag of potato chips, the bag is about one-fourth chip5s and three-fourths air? Now the potato chip company still calls it a bag of potato chips and they still advertise it as a bag of potato chips. But you notice that when you pay for a bag of potato chips you get more air than chips. Listen we have too many potato chips Christians today. There are too many Christians who have one foot in the world and one foot in the church. You know we will go see Beyonce on Monday, but we will be singing Michael W Smith's song on Sunday “Open the Eyes of my Heart “ Do you know what I am talking about, they love Jesus on Sunday, and then back in the world on Monday. Beloved it should not be so.
I John 2: 15-17 says Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. Remember we went over the word world, which means Kosmos. Again John doesn’t mean the created physical world and he doesn’t mean the world of men, we mean the system of sin or the system of evil, which is an anti-God, anti-Christ system that is made up of an atmosphere of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life. Beloved there is a spiritual force behind this world system. When John says do not love the world or things in the world, John is saying that the things that are in the world are seeking to entangle men in its system. We are not just fighting against sin, we need to be on guard about sin, and against the ruler of this world. God is building up His church to its fulfillment in the universal reign of Christ. Simultaneously Satan is building up this world system to its vain climax in the reign of the antichrist.
Beloved when we are faced with temptation, and a choice of ways confronts us, the question is not: Is this good or evil? It’s not is this helpful or hurtful? No the real question we must ask ourselves is: Is it of this world, or is it of God? For, in reality, this is the conflict in our life and the world. So whatever the two conflicting choice are before us, the choice is never which is not bad, the issue is always God or Satan.
Ok, then what is worldliness? Let me say this first, we should enjoy God’s creation and we should love sinful people who need to know the Savior. But John uses the word to refer to the evil, organized system under Satan, which operates through unbelieving people who are God’s enemies. He writes (1 John 5:19), “We know that we are of God and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” Jesus spoke of the world hating both Him and those who follow Him (John 15:18-19).
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Listen worldliness operates based on ungodly thoughts, attitudes, motives, values, and goals (Isa. 55:8-9). And we
