Do you want God because He is God, or because you crave something? When we seek God to do something for us instead of wanting only to please God, we do not love God as we ought. Love truly does not seek selfish desires above just being loving. If you have to have God accept you as you are, with what you crave to be then you do not love God as God.

We do not think about marrying another person and insisting that they give us our way. Instead, when a man loves a woman and seeks to marry her, he gives himself to love her completely and only. How can we not live that love for God alone?
