What is important in a relationship: the love of power or the power of love? Can you love your boss? Why do some parents still see their adult children as kids? Should you try to control your spouse?

When we think of relationships, we often think of specific kinds of relationships: spousal, parental, familial, friend, etc but how often do we think about the aspects of those relationships? Join me in reflections on two fundamental forces in relationships: love and power. Power imbalances can exist in multiple forms: in a single income household, the job holder wields power of money; in a boss-employee relationship, the boss wields the power of employment and career progression; in a parent-child relationship, the parent wields the power to protect and guide their child. Power imbalances on their own aren’t problematic, but they can be when that power is used to impose hierarchies. When are these hierarchies appropriate and when can they erode love?
