Why is the Bible such a killjoy when it comes to issues like abortion, homosexuality, and casual sex/hookups? Why do Christians preach against these things?
In this interview episode with Professor Nancy Pearcey, we discuss her book, which aptly addresses these questions from a biblical perspective, helping Christians engage with love and truth in these hot-button discussions and become more deeply rooted in their beliefs.
Moving beyond a list of “Thou shalt nots,” this conversation uncovers the reasons behind what can often feel like the Bible’s buzzkill takes, revealing instead a life-giving vision that makes sense of God’s design, and exposing the nihilistic, self-deprecating secular worldview that is implicitly or explicitly held by those who engage in such behaviour.
Nancy Pearcey is the author of Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality, as well as The Toxic War on Masculinity, The Soul of Science, Saving Leonardo, Finding Truth, and two ECPA Gold Medallion Award Winners: How Now Shall We Live (coauthored with Harold Fickett and Chuck Colson) and Total Truth. Her books have been translated into 20 languages. She is professor and scholar in residence at Houston Christian University. A former agnostic, Pearcey has spoken at universities such as Princeton, Stanford, USC, and Dartmouth. She has been quoted in The New Yorker and Newsweek, highlighted as one of the five top women apologists by Christianity Today, and hailed in The Economist as "America's pre-eminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual."
