Love Without Measure | Trinity Lutheran Church
The words of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are gift-giving words—words that pour out God’s love even to our enemies. “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” These words stand in direct contrast to the world's way of measuring love.
Faith responds, “Gift received.” Unbelief resists: “That cannot be.” It measures love—only giving as much as it receives. But this is not the love of God. Jesus calls us to love without measure, just as He first loved us. “Give, and it will be given to you… for with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
How do you measure love? By the world’s standards? Or by the abundant, overflowing grace of Christ?
