Love's Prayer is the first installment in the First Street Church Romances by veteran author Melissa Storm. The book focus on Ben Davis, a young man in small town Texas trying to overcome a rough hand in life. His brother committed suicide in the middle of town, leaving him alone with his alcoholic mother and no choice but to abandon his dreams of college and stay home to take care of her.

His depression at an all time high, Ben plans on following his brother when he sends up a prayer to a god he doesn't really believe in.

The answer to that prayer is Summer Smith. In town for the summer to help her aunt, the two meet and become fast friends. Summer's need to help people, and figure out her own path in life, both bring them to love, and almost drive them apart.

Love's Prayer is a sweet romance with some dramatic themes. Well written, it's a quick and engaging read. I loved the fact the story was built on interpersonal relationships, not sex. The main characters fell in love slowly and honestly. They were real, and Summer was a strong woman not willing to sacrifice her beliefs. It was a welcome change of pace, and I will certainly be finishing the rest of the series. Melissa Storm is a pro at character development, and it shows.

I read this book at just the right time. It left me with a reawakened sense of hope, and really made me think. When an author touches my soul that way, you can bet I want to sing their praises.

Melissa has written a very emotional and inspiring book with this series. She takes real life situations and through the story shows how to overcome and prosper despite the odds.

In this story there are 2 young people searching for a reason to live, haunted by the past, feeling like there is no future and drowning in circumstance. They learn together how to have faith, forgiveness, understanding and hope for a future. During this they also learn compassion and are able to help Ben's mom fight through her depression and addiction to begin living again.
