Stereo/Mono promo copy. This is one of the most sublime recordings to come out of 1973. It's a song that everyone knows, but which has never been a huge hit for anyone. A few Country artists did fine covers — in particular, Sammi Smith's 1977 version — and if you do a search in iTunes, you'll find umteen covers by folks like the Dixie Chicks, Elvis Presley, Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge, Kenny Rogers, Millie Jackson, and Irma Thomas. But frankly, this one beats 'em all, except perhaps for Sammi Smith's (he says, hedging). BTW, the jukebox "snippet" presents the second half of this powerful performance... just because I had to pick one half or the other. :-) Note: This beautiful promo 45 comes in a vintage MCA Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
