Today’s Scripture:
Romans 12:10 NIV
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
We said in our last episode that love prefers. Love sacrifices, love gives, and love is consistent. We covered two of these we covered love prefers and love sacrifices. Today, we want to look at how love gives and how love is consistent.
When we say love gives:
We are saying love is kind. The Bible tells us that love is kind, which means love gives. It also says for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, God demonstrates love to us by giving l, showing kindness. We cannot love without giving. Yes, there are people in our lives who are mean or can be mean, even in marriages. Some wives know that they are not going to get anything for Valentine's Day because their husbands are mean. But, when we talk about love, we cannot avoid giving or kindness; it must exude from us towards our significant other or toward our children and the people we meet in life.
There's no way around giving. The Bible says the righteous give generously (Psalm 37:21). If you find it hard to give probably, there's a deeper issue lying beneath the surface. Love gives.
When we say love is consistent:
We are saying that love is not conditional; it's always available regardless of the circumstances. This is so powerful because we see this in our world: people run out of love. One moment, we love each other much, and the next, we have fallen out of love with each other. But love is consistent. Love finds a way to love at all times. It comes through forgiveness and patience. So, the Bible says again in 1 Cor. 13 love is patient. Without patience, love never grows. Love requires patience because love takes time.
Jesus loved Peter when Peter denied him. Jesus did not stop loving him. I mean, I would, and probably you would too, but Jesus' love was consistent: even after Peter denied him, Jesus sent for him after his Resurrection and restored him in fellowship and love. Love never throws people away. But it always gives a second chance. May we never forget to love with kindness and consistency and always find a way to love others. It will come back to you.
