SCRIPTURE TEXT: Ruth 1:1-22  

"Once upon a time, back in the days of the Judges in Israel..." So begins our new sermon series on the Book of Ruth, a short story with a long legacy, telling the true story of a woman named Ruth who lived a life of profound love, labor, & LOYALTY. In this, Ruth achieves a kind of regency, as through her patience & faith God paves the way not only for a kingdom but even for the very King of Kings. In Ruth chapter one, we meet a family suffering losses that threaten to extinguish all hope for the future. Yet Ruth fulfills the meaning of her name & the words of Proverbs 17:17 as “a friend [who] loves at all times,” as through every hardship she exhibits patient loyalty & faith in the God of Israel.
