"A new king, who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt. He said to his people, “Look, the Israelite people are more numerous and powerful than we are. Come, let’s deal shrewdly with them; otherwise, they will multiply further, and when war breaks out, they will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country”. So the Egyptians assigned taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labour…But the more they oppressed them, the more they multiplied and spread so that the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites. They worked the Israelites ruthlessly and made their lives bitter with difficult labor…they ruthlessly imposed all this work on them...
The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labour; and they cried out; and their cry for help ascended to God. And God heard their groaning; and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, and with Isaac and with Jacob, and God saw the Israelites and God knew."
~ Exodus 1:8-11; 2: 23-24
The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. It was originally broadcast for the season of Lent, but it can be used at any time of the year.
We invite you into Scripture, reflection, and intentional practices to help you abide in the presence of Jesus and the Word of God, learn by studying the Scriptures, and go with intention to love the world. Each weekday is a 10-12 minute devotional, with the exception of the final four meditations (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday) which are slightly longer.
The Liminal Spaces bibliography can be found on our website.
Scriptures are taken from various translations, the most common being the Common English Bible (CEB), the English Standard Version (ESV), and the New Living Translation (NLT).
