Many people often say the phrase “Gue emang begini orangnya” (“This is just the way I am”) when they receive criticism about their behavior. At first glance, this statement can sound like self-acceptance—being honest and comfortable with who we are. However, sometimes it can also become a defense mechanism to avoid personal growth or responsibility for our actions. In reality, as human beings, we all naturally have imperfections. We can be selfish, easily emotional, or react impulsively. But accepting that these tendencies exist does not mean we should simply justify them and never try to improve. If someone constantly uses their personality as an excuse for harmful behaviors—such as being rude, overly aggressive, or emotionally hurtful—it can prevent them from reflecting and becoming a better version of themselves.
