Publisher's Summary:
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll is a dark and gripping novel that reveals the traumatic past of Ani FaNelli, a writer for a popular women's magazine. This book shows how the strong desire to belong and to be liked makes people do things they would not ordinarily do. It also illustrates how the influences of youth carry over into adulthood and affect basic character even as people search for happiness.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ani FaNelli is a successful writer for The Women's Magazine. She sees her engagement to well-to-do Luke Harrison as part of her success. Experiences she had in high school make her want to change her image, so she calls herself Ani and cannot wait to change her last name to Harrison when she is married. At the same time, she is preparing to take part in an HBO documentary about an incident that occurred at The Bradley School.

A brief look into a dark, gripping novel!
Need a refresher on "Luckiest Girl Alive" for a class or synopsis? Then this could be for you! Starting with an 8 page summary of the original story we get a real sense of what the full book is all about. Described as a "dark and gripping novel" it is very apparent that this is definitely not for everyone. We learn that TifAni FanNelli was a successful writer for a popular magazine. At 28, engaged to Luke, she is also involved in preparing for an HBO documentary about happened to her and others in a private high school. (Think traumatic and tragic bullying, rape, murder etc.)
The reader is provided with a list of main characters which includes a short bio on each and then we are treated to the "Character Analysis" which is a good, solid description of the main characters allowing us to "know" each one. The "Character Relationships" section focuses on Ani with different people.
Themes:
Bullying * Social Status * Belonging * Self-worth
In the "Author's Style" Instaread admits to finding the original book slow at the beginning but speeding up, incorporating both present and past situations and warning that some readers could be shocked and repelled due to some of the descriptive events.
Remember this Instaread book is only a SUMMARY. (Think 'very detailed' review.) It is NOT the complete book. If you want to read the full details this may not be what you are looking for. However if you are wanting to just get the gist of the original then this may be just what you are looking for! It also may or may not be important to you to note that "this concise summary is unofficial and is not authorized, approved, licensed or endorsed by the original book's author or publisher."
Book provided in exchange for honest review. Thanks, Liz
Clues me in to a book that was off my radar
Books like this usually fly way, way, WAY under my radar. Considering this book was penned by the Cosmo's Fifty-One Shades of Blonde author, it wasn't even a blip on said radar. That's until it showed up on the bestseller list and started getting comparisons to Gone Girl (aren't ALL books these days compared to Gone Girl...ugh).
I turn to book summaries like this to clue me into popular books; the summaries help me decide if the book is worth a purchase or library rental.
