The smoke has risen above the BBC, which means we have ourselves a new Doctor, folks - number 13 to be exact. And this time, it's Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to ever play the part. So, we cobbled together an emergency meeting of the Coal Hill minds, from the darkest forests of North Carolina (Clay) to the cotton-candy beaches of Coney Island (Christine) to the banana aisle at the local Stop and Shop (Andy), with Emma and, of course, our lovable mascot Stephen. We're pretty damn excited, naturally.

That's right - it's the 100th edition of the Coal Hill AV Club, so - I don't know - I guess you should pretend this podcast is wrapped in a special gold leaf cover like Robert Holmes' "Two Doctors" novelization. Here's the deal: we start off talking about why we love the fandom and why it's a great time to be a fan, what with the Twitch stream and all. After about 25 minutes of that, we launch into a hilarious, insightful, snarktastic live commentary of the 2007 Doctor Who episode "Gridlock", because hey why the heck not?

It all comes down to this. And by "it", we mean "our March Madness thing, but in May, and with Doctor Who monsters instead of basketball people." And by "this", we mean "the final rounds." Who will be crowned as The Character and/or Species The Coal Hill A/V Club Most Wants To See Return? Will the Mara snake its way into a mythological victory? Will the Rani pickle her opponents like gherkins in a jar? Will the Voord something something latex something watery? Only time will tell.
