Luke 10:38-42 (4/16/20)

* You motive for work is what pleases or displeases God.
* He’s not as concerned about WHAT you do but WHY you’re doing it.
* Case in point - Martha!
* Vs 38-42 - Jesus became the problem.
* This is the problem with contemptuous thoughts.
* You begin to compare what you do with what others do.
* And God ultimately becomes the problem.
* But it wasn’t Martha’s actions that were the problem, it was her motive.
* Jesus didn’t rebuke her until she rebuked Him!
* Jesus addressed her inner motive.
* She thought she needed REASSURANCE. She needed approval.
* What she really needed was REST!
* Martha learned the lesson, because just before Christ died He ended up at her brother’s house.
* John 12:2 - “A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him.”
* John mentions Martha serving.
* She was doing the same thing as before, but this time Jesus didn’t rebuke her!
* Christ is more concerned about WHY and HOW you work than WHAT you do for a living.
* Do it with a heart of gratitude and joy and watch how you experience rest.
* HOW?
* By sitting before serving! By being Mary before you’re Martha!
* EX: mowing lawns at 27 years old.
