Life is not measured by the abundance of possessions but by the depth of relationships.
• So Jesus is healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead, teaching with authority.
• Vs 13 - Then a man asks Him to settle a financial dispute with his brother.
• Pause - of all the things he could ask Jesus, he went this route?
• Didn’t he know a sick person he could ask Christ to heal?
• EX: asking Christ this question would be like going on stage at a Benny Hinn healing service and asking if he could talk your brother into giving you a loan.
• Buzz Kill!
• Vs 14 - although rabbi’s settled civil disputes, Christ refused to operate in that role - that’s not why He came.
• He didn’t come to be a divider of estates but a director of consciences (Matthew Henry).
• Vs 15 - Jesus went to the root of this man’s problem.
• He was subconsciously fueled by greed - that’s the only reason he asked that question.
• Greed - “intense, selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food.”
• Vs 16-21 - Jesus talked about the value of relationships over possessions.
• How can you be rich toward God? Love Him and love others (not money).
• We are never to find our SECURITY in stuff!
• We find our security in God.
• Then does that mean we don’t need to work?
• No, we need to WORK, but we don’t need to WORRY!
• Jesus talks about worry in vs 22-34.
• Birds and flowers don’t worry - they just be who God made them to be and they are provided for.
• LIFE CONSISTS IN THE DEPTH OF YOUR RELATIONSHIPS THAN THE ABUNDANCE OF YOUR POSSESSIONS
