Luke 22:1-13

1. We see that high offices in the church do not preserve the holders of them from great blindness and sin.
2. We see how far men may fall after making a high profession.
3. We see the enormous power of the love of money.
4. We see the close connection between our Lord Jesus Christ's death and the Feast of the Passover.

"It matters little who says a thing in religion, but it matters greatly what is said. Is it scriptural? Is it true? This is the only question.

"At best, we have but a faint conception of the deceitfulness of our hearts."

"It is possible to love money without having it, and it is possible to have it without loving it."

"The death of Christ was the fulfillment of the Passover lamb."

Questions:

1. Ryle warns us that so much heresy comes not from the unlearned, but religious elites and those who know the Bible. Do we have as our standard: is it scriptural? Is it true?
2. Ryle warns us that we should look to Judas Iscariot and pray often for humility. Do we pray, with the Psalms, "search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts?"
3. Ryle tells us that it is possible to have no money and love it, and to have it without loving it. What is our heart toward money? Do we recognize that it is the root of all kinds of evil, and watch and pray against such love?
4. Jesus died on the cross as our Passover lamb. Have we, as Ryle exhorts us, grasped this truth firmly? May it be so by God's grace!
