* Christ is teaching the beatitudes - small little principles for life.

* vs 36 - In the context of talking about our enemies, Jesus tells us to be merciful as God is merciful.

* What’s that look like? He gives mercy to those willing to receive it. He wants to show mercy.

* vs 37 - we are not the judge, God is.

* We are not to put ourselves in God’s place - we are to simply agree with the judge.

* vs 38 - our attitude and mindset toward others will be returned to us.

* Jesus is telling us to have a merciful mindset (not one of condemnation).

* vs 39 - the Pharisees were judgmental, so pay attention to who you are emulating - don’t follow those who are judging others.

* vs 40 - 42 - Observation is meant for OPERATION!

* vs 43-45 is about observation. vs 40-42 is about operation.

* Two mindsets:

* 1) A judge - what are the rules and did you break them?

* I punish the guilty and acquit the innocent.

* 2) A doctor - what is wrong and how can I fix it?

* A doctor makes judgments based on his observation.

* He discerns a proper course of action and begins the operation.

* His goal is restoration.

* A doctor mindset uses observation for operation leading to restoration.
