"She had been fatally beaten and decapitated and raped, and there was immediately a suspect, a neighbor, but that didn't prove to go anywhere. However, a detective saw a similarity to the murder of Marietta Ball, and this led him to a suspect from that case, a lumberjack named Joseph LePage, who had lived in Vermont and was now in New Hampshire. He was questioned in the original case and he had a reputation for accosting young women, but they thought he had an alibi."
