"So let's get all forensic. The first report came the night of September 1, 1944, when Aileen Kearney claimed to have smelled a strange gas in her home and she experienced nausea and partial paralysis and her husband noticed a prowler outside their window. Over the following nights, similar reports poured in from across town. Witnesses described fleeting glimpses of a tall, thin man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a tight cap. Some even found physical evidence such as rags soaked in an unknown chemical near their homes."
