Lupercalia: Love, Sex, and Valentine's Day
In my research on magickal traditions, it turns out that humans love to party. PERIODT.
Because whenever I study pre-Christian holidays, sex, fertility, and bonfires are usually involved.
For thousands of years before Christianity, our ancestors have celebrated all kinds of special days, which were later rebranded for Jesus, and that includes Saint Valentine’s Day.
You may have heard the legend of the original Valentine who was a Roman priest who married Christian couples, at a time when aiding Christians was against the law. He was condemned to death, and later martyred as a saint.
Well, just wait til you hear about Lupercalia, the pagan holiday which involved sacrificing animals, slapping women, and hooking up!
