In this podcast I interview Dre Rodriguez. He was born and raised in Pilsen, on the southwest side of Chicago. After serving 10 years in prison, Dre, a former street gang member, decided that his reintegration into society would consist of preventing gang-involved youth from making some of the same bad decisions that almost cost him his life. He didn't know then that some of the hardest trials and experiences of his life would prepare him and propel him to do the work he is doing today. He is now a filmmaker/activist/youth mentor. In 2019, Dre founded "Luv City Media", a Chicago-based production company that gives at-risk youth a creative outlet to express themselves. He has shot numerous music videos with local artists who otherwise would not be able to afford a quality production video. Dre teaches youth all about video production and hires them to work on projects where they will either be in front of or behind the camera. Dre continues to partner with other community leaders and organizations to continue to bring resources and opportunities to local youth. Dre hopes to inspire young people to believe in their talents and push them to pursue the greatness he sees in them.
