LWL Emotional Compulsiveness

Listen Later

Episode 13 is the start of a new 3 part series on Living With Less Compulsiveness. This week we are looking deeper into Emotional Compulsiveness. How God has shown me even though this feels like a small area of sin in my life, it still creates a barrier between me and Him.

To truly know God we've got to also study the Old Testament. God took me to 2 Samuel 6:6-7 "But when they arrived a the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah rached out his hand and steadied the Ark of God. The The Lord's anger was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him dead because of this. so Uzzah died right therebeside the Ark of God."

*This story can be looked at as very cruel but it shows the reverence we're supposed to have for God and His commands.

"When we get to complacent in our walk with The Lord our obedience becomes loose."

  • When Uzzah touched the Ark, he probably wasn't doing it to be rude toward God. I think he did it because he'd become to comfortable with his actions around God.

  • Even though this area of sin in my life seems small, it's still creating a barrier between He and I.

  • If we could un-blind ourselves and realize if Jesus was in the room with us we'd never act the way we are, we'd be a lot better off.

How do we turn from these compulsive behaviors?

Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable, and perfect."

    1. Do not be conformed to this world - Turn away from the world and your old self.

    2. Be transformed by the renewal of your mind - Accept Christ and pursue being transformed in His image

    3. Discern the will of God - Learn His voice by having a relationship with Him.

    4. Do what is good, acceptable, and perfect - Pursue Godliness

Notice all 4 of these are a choice, but when we choose these we're choosing God's best for us and able to pursue freedom.

"God blessed us with emotions and expects us to feel them, we just have to learn to not let them overpower us. When we let our emotions get to loud, we'll no longer be able to hear the quiet whisper of the Holy Spirit."
