22-year-old Bordeaux producer Leon Revol sent us some demos a while back and we instantly fell in love with his sound. Deep, musical and classy, his productions belied his experience, but once we heard more we knew it was no fluke. With previous releases for the likes of Apersonal, Carré Bleu Records and Moutade Musique (as Leonid.) and his gorgeous recent effort for Kolour Recordings, his output is both increasingly prolific and very consistent, drawing on old soul, disco, funk, Brazilian styles and his own innate sense of musicality.

Rounding up some of his output to date plus some unreleased, untitled beauties, his Monologues mix is a sumptuous journey.

How would you describe your sound?

I really don’t know how to describe it. I would say that it’s sometimes an immersive slo-mo house with a touch of jazzy stuffs and sometimes more alternative and deep things. When I started to make sounds, I was still playing drums and desired using lots of samples. Now I feel that I’m going on more electronic stuffs without leaving the power of a sample. What is sure is that I’m always on the lookout for hypnotic, warm or nostalgic sounds.

What and who inspires you and influences your sound?

I’m influenced by a wide group of musicians from old to modern, from hip-hop to house (Azymuth, Deodato, Common, Session Victim, Move D..). For sure the disco-jazz side comes from my parents, with their old records I grew up with. The other side with deep influences comes from all my mates who share good stuffs and from hours and hours of digging. Also parties in clubs.

Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?

Most of these sounds are already out. Some of these were made in 2009 when I had just my computer and records from my parents. There is another that I just finished a few weeks ago. I picked about a track of each year since 2009. Strange to mix my own sounds!
