M2F 5: Skills Pay The Bills

Listen Later

What's going on everybody?

Hope you are all doing awesome, I don't know if I've mentioned it before I might've but if not, I love to golf. When I was a little kid I would always get to play like once or twice a year with my dad, brother and grandpa for father's day but my dad was always going to outings like once a month and I would wake up and the one day I would want to do something and play outside because video games were just starting to come into play and I would wake up, go downstairs and the house just felt empty and I would see my mom and say "when's dad gonna be home? I wanna practice basketball" or something like that and he would always be at these golf outings every time I wanted to do something and then I always had in the back of my head, I want to golf one day with dad and his friends in one of these outings, they seem really cool… so I would play with him for fathers day or whatever and I was terrible, which is pretty much expected from an 11-year old that plays a couple times a year and as I grew up I think it was when I was in the 8th grade, all our friends would have football practice and I hated playing football because you had to put the dang helmet on and it always hurt my head so I had to rip the ear pads out and take off the helmet that way so when they would have practice, my brother was on one of the younger teams, me and my buddy would go and golf at the golf course that was about 50 yards away from where they practiced. And I started to notice I got REALLY good… I was shooting mid 40s in 9 holes, for those of you that don't know golf, basically mid 40s is what an average golfer would shoot, but I started getting what I thought was really good for being 13. And then I went to high school, stopped playing, played once or twice a year and when I got to probably a couple years ago so about 8 years after I stopped playing twice a week I started playing with all my friends again and obviously I'm super competitive and wanted to be the best one… well my friends were all on the golf team or golfed all the time and they kept beating me… and if you're wondering what this has to do with MLM just wait, it'll tie in perfectly...But I was using my dad's clubs, I'm a little over 6' tall and my dad is 6'10", yes I'm not lying he's a giant and unfortunately I got my mom's height… But I was using his clubs so they were WAY too big on me and they were also from like the early 2000s so I didn't have all the new technology and just this past year my fiance got me new clubs for Christmas… yeah the Christmas that I didn't get her anything… embarrassing right? And I went out to the driving range for weeks and weeks and practiced and then went to the course and shot about 10 strokes under what I normally shoot with my dad's clubs… which got me into the low 90s and I was like what the heck? These things were supposed to make me play better! And this past summer I actually played probably 2 or 3 times a week and  by the end of the summer I was shooting low 80s. I even forgot my clubs at home one day and had to rent these junky ones from the course I played at and still shot 80s... I didn't really realize it till now when I had to think of a way to explain what being successful in MLM is like but now I realized it and I'm glad I did… It wasn't the golf clubs that made me better… Sure, they helped lower my score a bit because they were finally my size but what helped lower my score was because I was playing so much… And I actually got a guy who is on the amatuer tour I know that coaches on the side to help me fix everything up and he changed my swing and grip and stance and everything and I was STILL going up to the ball super confused but being just as good… and that's what I realized, I wasn't good because the golf clubs made me better, I was good because I had been playing 2 or 3 times a week I got a coach to teach me on my skills and help me get better.

And this is related to MLM because when I first got in and was struggling I would see friends or other people successful in these other companies and I thought it was my service or product that was the issue. But the issue was that I SUCKED at marketing and I was terrible at sales. I needed to refine my skills. When I first got into MLM the only guy I recruited was terrible. He didn't do a single thing, and it just kept getting worse so within that year or so I quit and thought it was a scam. Now does the product really matter? Yeah maybe a little bit, if you're selling crap that doesn't actually work or help people, yeah the product matters. But it doesn't matter what brand it is, just like it doesn't matter that I had the new golf clubs and went to the course left mine at home and used crappy ones and shot the same exact score! It doesnt matter guys. And that's why I don't even tell you what MLM I'm in because I don't want to pitch you and say oh the grass is greener over here, you are in yours, you love it, that's awesome. If you hate yours or don't like your products, maybe you should find a different one, or find a way to get into mine if you really want. But I'm telling you the product does NOT matter.

Your success in MLM has nothing to do with the product and EVERYTHING to do with the skill level. What do I mean? My skill I solely focus on in MLM is marketing. I marketed the crap out of my product and for the first month or two I hadn't even tried the product, I just knew it was good and I could do very good marketinging it. And that's why it worked and why I am starting to see success.

And what made me realize it in MLM is I started to look at these top guys and started to notice a trend… these people aren't some genius', they didn't find some crazy hack that they're saying they can teach you to recruit 100 people in a week. They just used marketing and they combined it with automation, remember me saying they don't do the hotel meetings, they don't do presentations and you don't see them posting all over social media about their product? They used marketing through offering products on top of what they're selling and they used automation through getting their downline to recruit and sell for them so they could make the true residual income, and I saw a couple using some technology hacks for automation but that's basically it guys. So for me, I might have mentioned it on another podcast but I market just like they do and I use strictly internet to do it, sure if somebody I know is asking about MLM I'll tell them but I don't even want to pitch people anymore because I use my marketing to have them come to me and I use it to find people I WANT to work with. And I use systems and technology online to automate it. For the automation I use sales funnels, when I first started it was on Wordpress and it took a couple weeks to make one and it didn't work well… now there are softwares out there like clickfunnels, which I use, that allow me to get it done in a day or two and it's all automated. It is true duplication and true residual income. And I'm not going to pitch other people's products on here because I think that gets annoying but this is the only one I fully endorse just because it helps dummies like me with technology pains - it helps us out a ton.

What eventually did though was I created like a survey and ran ads to it marketing to MLMers then sent people to this pdf and to get the pdf that helped with their survey results I got an email in return. I then charged a couple bucks for something that basically qualified my buyer because they wanted to buy and I may be getting in too deep to this but after they buy something for a couple bucks I would upsell them on getting a free automation tool and then the next page sell them on how to get traffic just like I got them in the door. And on the backend just pitched my product.

The best part is this probably took a total of 4 or 5 weeks? I took a ton of video content from people who were successful doing this, had someone transcribe it for me and then made my own content out of it. And that free pdf teaching you how to sell on social media is what I have if you join my Facebook group you get it, it's what I used to get people in the door. In that Facebook group I teach a bunch of other cool stuff too and do some live videos on how to set this funnel stuff up so you guys can use it and just model what I'm doing and make it your own… but this is marketing at its core guys, it's making an offer not a product, hey I want you to join my free Facebook group - when you join I'll give you this - I'm incentivizing you to join, it's marketing. Not selling. But I go into this a lot more not only in there but I have that free flash drive also that shows you how t o tighten up your marketing skills. Because remember it's not the brand or the product that matters, it's the marketing skills behind it and that's what I go into in that bootcamp that I send you guys.

Posting crap on Facebook about how you're working from the beach and what you're drinking is not marketing. That's not marketing. That's prospecting. That pushes people away. I swear, if I see another post on Facebook about someone bragging about how they get to work from the beach I'm gonna lose it… if I'm going to the beach I'm not bringing my computer, and if I do, it's to chuck it in the water. Nobody wants to work when they're at the beach.

It's one of the reasons why I'm making this podcast and why I'm putting out this content. Because I found a different way to do it and it works way more effectively and you don't ruin relationships as you do it. I am super awkward and introverted, I don't like selling face to face. I tried it with the supplement company in college as a campus rep, it's miserable.

That's all I wanted to come on and tell you guys today is just to start looking more into the marketing skill itself, it is called multi level marketing for a reason, it's not multi level go blow up your social media feed or network pitch your face off…

Hope you guys are enjoying the show/project… leave some comments, ask some questions, leave feedback and let me know what you're struggling with and I'll see if I can help - until next time! I'll talk to you guys later!
