macOS Tahoe 26.5: What to Do After You Update

Listen Later

macOS Tahoe 26.5 landed on May 11, 2026 with a short feature list — but don't let that fool you. Apple patched 98 security vulnerabilities in this update, including 23 in WebKit alone, plus kernel fixes, a CUPS root privilege escalation patch, and a FileProvider race condition that could expose user data.

On the feature side, Apple quietly added two long-awaited power management options for M4 Mac mini, M4 iMac, and 2025 Mac Studio: auto power-on when plugged in, and power control through assistive accessories. The MagSafe charging indicator also now turns green (instead of staying amber) when Battery Charge Limit is reached. And Shortcuts now requires additional user consent before running automations that touch sensitive files or contacts.

In this episode, Laura breaks down every change, explains what each one actually means for how you use your Mac, and gives you a clear action plan for what to check after installing.
