Macy Halford is the author of My Utmost: A Devotional Memoir, which chronicles her lifelong relationship with the classic Christian devotional My Utmost for His Highest, by the Scottish preacher Oswald Chambers. Part travelogue, part confessional memoir, part well-researched biography, the book covers Macy's childhood in Texas, her serendipitous journey to working as a copy editor and ultimately editor of the books blog at The New Yorker, and her decision to leave the magazine and strike out on her own as a writer. Among other things, we discuss the process of writing the book, her research into Chambers' often difficult life, and her connection to the world of evangelicalism. She spoke with me from Strasbourg.
