What does it mean to be righteous?

● Righteousness defined simply means being in right

standing with God. It gives a person the ability to

be free of guilt, condemnation, fear, and

inferiority.

● The ability to stand before God without the sense

of guilt or inferiority. E.W. Kenyon

How does one become righteous?

● Rom 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death

reigned through the one, much more those who

receive abundance of grace AND of the gift of

righteousness will reign in life through the One,

Jesus Christ.

● 2 Cor 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to

be sin for us, that we might become the

righteousness of God in Him.

● 1 Cor 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who

became for us wisdom from God—and

righteousness and sanctification and redemption

● Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto

righteousness, and with the mouth confession is

made unto salvation.

● We are made righteous by grace through faith.

The Bible uses phrases like this...righteousness is

imputed to us, or reckoned to us, or counted to

us.

What does righteousness look like with skin on?

This is what we see when we do not have a foundation

of being made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus

established in our lives.

1. We look in a mirror, and who we see is not who we

want to be.

a. We see faults, sins, and shortcomings

b. We feel inferior, less than, ashamed, guilty

2. We look in a mirror, and see who we are not

a. We are not focused on the bad we have done

but on the good we have not done.

b. We see failure, we see inefficiency, we see

NEVER, we compare ourselves with others,

James 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and

not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in

a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and

immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he

who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues

in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work,

this one will be blessed in what he does.

When we use the Word of God as our “Mirror” we see

what it looks like to be “the righteousness of God in

Christ Jesus”...or you could say it this way “IN CHRIST”

● 1 John 4:4 great is He that is in you than he that is

in the world

● Rom 8:37 in all things, we are more than

conquerors through Him that loved us

● Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which

strengthens me

● Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no

longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life

which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the

Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for

me.

● Eph 1 says In Christ...I have access to every

spiritual blessing, I’ve been chosen, selected,

adopted, I’m holy, without blame, I have

redemption & forgiveness, an abundance of

wisdom, I have an inheritance, and I’ve got a

relationship with His precious Holy Spirit.
