Last year, Manila Pianos Artist Series put out a call for bass clarinetists to take on Bach’s suites for unaccompanied cello. The call was answered: last April, this exploration of Bach’s Cello Suites, transcribed for bass clarinet, was inaugurated with a performance by John Vincent Burgos. This series will soon see its second installment, so ahead of that, DZFE’s Daniel spent time with Burgos to talk about the music, the instrument, and the challenges of bringing the two together. We also hear some of Burgos’ other music for the Manila Pianos Artist Series on this edition of MAESTRO FILIPINO.
MAESTRO FILIPINO is DZFE's program on the Philippine classical music scene.
All music on the program features with permission from the artists.
