Band music is both familiar and new territory for Alejandro Consolacion II. Growing up surrounded by it, he broke new ground when he wrote his Celebration Suite, with which he won the symphonic band category of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ Composition Prize. Consolacion joins DZFE’s Daniel to talk about the genesis of the suite, and the foundation that holds its various movements together. We also hear the works of the other category winners, Franz Mallari and Jonathan Domingo, as MAESTRO FILIPINO caps our feature in this year’s competition.
