After catching up with each other Luke and Josh briefly discuss dropping in at churches when you don’t have a meeting. Their conversation then turns to another important aspect of ministry: finding time to rest. Full time ministry really is full time! But God designed us to need a time of rest. However, while resting, we do not forget God or put the Bible on the shelf. Rest requires trusting God. The Magners also discuss the importance of encouraging yourself in the Lord. We live during a time that preaching messages are available worldwide at any moment. How helpful that is! Especially when preaching 3 times a week, being able to listen to others preach. They also share about some of their favorite podcasts that they listen to regularly and recommend a number of other podcasts that you may enjoy.

In the Final episode of the Pre-field Ministry series, Josh and Luke focus on sharing practical advice for missionaries on Pre-field Ministry. A few of the topics the brothers discuss include: finances, communication, visiting churches, selfishness, scheduling meetings, having a calling verse and preparing for the field. They also take a few minutes to encourage you not to be discouraged by those who do not understand your calling. Not everyone will understand why you are called to the field God has called you to and that is ok. Do not be discouraged by pastors or anyone who does not understand your calling.

Today we start a 3 part series on the topic of pre-field ministry (deputation). Luke will answer the question of “why do we call it pre-field ministry?” Josh shares that pre-field ministry is so much more than just raising financial support! Both brothers share examples of how encouraging prayer warriors are to missionaries. Pre-field ministry also provides the opportunity to build lifelong relationships and friendships with people. Today, the Magners discuss being faithful and obeying the will of God. The will of God is not always what we think or want. We must first be obedient to the broad will of God before He will reveal His specific will to us. It begins with daily Bible reading and prayer. Have a communicating relationship with God before asking for His specific will. God often shows us His will in little steps at a time. As He shows us the steps to take, we must trust Him. Sometimes we expect and plan for Gods will to go a specific direction but that may not be God’s plan, trust Him. We can try to force our plan into Gods will or we can trust His guidance and have our faith increased. Whatever you are going through today, trust His will and be faithful to what God has called you to do.
