A scrub fire in the Hawke's Bay settlement of Mahanga yesterday destroyed a house and burnt through around 35 hectares of grassland and trees. RNZ journalist Elizabeth Brown has been holidaying in Mahanga. She says the flames were about 20 metres away from her bach.
