Without desire, we have no reason to move in any direction.  Though when obsessed by our desires, we are not experiencing our Now; the place and time where desire manifests and becomes reality.  We spend so much of our time in "virtual reality' in our own minds.  We are so often reliving the past or fretting about the future.  Our lives are happening right now though.  In the middle.  Mahayana.
