Recent reports out of Canada reveal a chilling development: discussions have emerged about extending Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) to include disabled newborn infants.
Canada’s MAiD regime, originally designed for terminally ill adults, has steadily expanded to include people with disabilities and mental illness, and now debates over “baby euthanasia” has resurfaced among some medical and bioethics circles.
This slippery slope threatens the fundamental dignity of every human being, especially the most vulnerable among us. As pro-life advocates, we must clearly reject any policy that treats disability as a reason to end an innocent life. Every human being, regardless of their circumstances has a right to life.
