John was born to Southeastern Mvskoke people in April of 1944. After attending High school and trade school where he earned a two year accounting degree, john moved closer to his grandparents and learned to live a more natural way of life. His aunts and uncles were instrumental in Johns spiritual development. John's grandfather often spoke about the gift of fire and good ceremony. He also spoke about plants and the natural way of living on the land, how to be with family, and the way to grow into eldership. When John was 40 years old, he was approached by his people about spiritual leadership and asked to take over the ceremonial grounds to bring the ceremonial way to his people. He has learned a lot in the years since taking this position and was appointed new grounds by principal Chief Ronnie Williams four years ago. Johns people are a growing group who find there is much to do all the time.
