Found and adopted and raised by the Dreyfus family after his parents were killed by bandits, he was also a widower, with a half breed daughter in need of a mother figure in her life, so he placed a singles ad for a mail order bride. There is a wet nurse for the daughter, but he doesn't really feel any chemistry with her. Isabelle Bishop is of marriageable age but she doesn't want to end up in a loveless marriage to a man just like her father. They exchange a number of letters and he sends her money for a ticket and she writes back to tell him she was on her way and sneaks out early the next morning to board a train toward Nevada. When she arrives there she finds his house burned down. In the process of saving his daughter he was burned badly and was in the hospital. She came everyday and their love grew.What would happen when he was out of the hospital, and where would they live? Is there a happy ever after in their future?

A Mother Search

What a beautiful short story! The characteristics of each person were so clearly described that this reader felt she knew each one and loved most of them. My heart was breaking for the heroine, but she handled everything perfectly. Emma Ashwood is a gifted author and I eagerly await another of her novelettes. I have no reservations in recommending this book for the whole family.
