Great!
Well written with fantastic characters and an interesting story! Great narration!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The fact that I was gifted this book had no influence over my opinion of it
Great series starter
Although its a bit cheesy at times, I loved this book. Its well written and very entertaining. I finished it in one sitting. The narration is a bit choppy in places but doesnt detract from the story. I will definitely listen to the next in the series to find out what the rest of these characters stories hold! I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.
Different Take on Mail Order Brides
Cyrus Decker, a disgraced Pinkerton agent, lives on his family's ranch in Chance City, Oklahoma with his sister and cousin. They are not very adept at running the ranch and slowly it is dying.
The local barkeep gives Cy the idea to ask for a mail-order bride that can serve as foreman on the ranch.
Leigh Hawthorn answers Cy's ad and heads west from Massachusetts.
I really enjoyed the twist that Deeter included in her mail-order bride story. It is very rare that a bride is contracted to run the ranch rather than to scratch an itch or raise children from a previous marriage.
I did not like the narration at all. I felt like I was listening to a radio broadcast of a religious sermon, rather than a sexy story. Don't think I will be listening to other stories read by Jay Smith.
I provided this review in exchange for a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author, narrator, or publisher.
Great story!
Cyrus Decker, a fired Pinkerton detective finds himself in the middle of a murder in his hometown of Chance City, OK. He wants a "normal, ranching life" but knows nothing about ranching and cannot find anyone who is willing to marry a "half-breed", so he sends for a mail-order bride who does not care about his parentage.
Leigh Hawthorne is a widow who enjoys working her ranch but is looked down upon for doing a "man's job". Cyrus gives her the opportunity to help run his ranch and it is an offer that she cannot pass up.
