Máirtín MacGabhann talks us through his, Dáithí’s, journey, from finding out about his rare heart condition at the 20-week scan to his emergency surgery after he was born and the numerous surgeries throughout his young life.

He tells us about the agonising wait to get his boy on the transplant list which led to him and partner, Seph, spearheading the organ donation campaign. Celebrities and sports stars, both local and worldwide, got behind the campaign and helped promote it.

The campaign was successful and resulted in ‘Daithi’s law’ being put in place. Máirtín also talks about being a proud member of the Gaeilgeoir community and playing Gaelic games during his youth. He speaks about having a conversation with the King of England and getting his support for organ donation.

He talks about the controversy over accepting an MBE whilst being from the Ballymurphy, the very republican area situated in West Belfast.
