‘Maher’ in Marathi means maternal home. The home that a bride stays before her marriage with her parents and siblings. In Hindu customs, a bride leaves her parents and comes to stay with her in laws. The umbilical cord between her and her parents is broken as she drifts off to conduct her worldly duties. But, her soul always longs for her parents and the home that she grew up in. In this poem the lady comes back to her ‘Maher’ after fulfilling her duties only to find a deserted house. She misses her parents, her siblings and the house that once gave her so much joy. She says that she has conquered the world, but whom should she offer her victory to? As her parents are no longer there to celebrate it. It’s a long time and she has moved very far away from her childhood and it’s carefree days.
