Professor Matthew D. Fisher has been involved in startup projects since middle school when he used to sell bubble gum to his classmates, but his first real business was a Bulletin board system service in addition to an auto repair shop, and once graduated from college he had built a little real estate empire of 18 properties in Michigan.

Other entrepreneurial ventures he has had were related to financial services, including a bank. After his entrepreneurial phase, he entered into teaching, consulting, and research where he is still today.
